Dental Veneers: A Few Facts

Posted .

Are you familiar with dental veneers? As you may know, these thin shells are bonded to your pearly whites to give you a healthy, attractive smile. In fact, dental veneers can be used to correct crooked teeth, to whiten your smile, or to close small gaps in your mouth. Dental veneers are stain resistant and durable—but there are still things you can consider doing to extend the life of your veneers.

As you’ve probably guessed, you should brush and floss every day. However, please remember to brush for two minutes at a time twice a day. and consider using a non-abrasive toothpaste, such as those designed for individuals with sensitive teeth.

It’s also important that you remember to not misuse your teeth. In other words, please don’t bite down on ice, metal, your fingernails, or pens. Chewing on these items could chip your teeth—or crack your veneers. If this happens to you, you’ll need to have your old veneers removed and have new veneers placed. Also, please remember that certain beverages, such as sodas or alcohol, could weaken your veneers.

Finally, to properly maintain your dental veneers, please be sure to visit our dentist twice a year for a routine cleaning and checkup. If you would like more information on what you can do to keep your veneers strong, we invite you to call John S. Grisham, DDS at 603-444-2100. Dr. John S.
